Isaac entitled this image
Isaac entitled this image "Generation."

This image was taken by Isaac Pereira, whom we believe (judging from his email address) photographed it on the streets of Macau where he probably lives.

The only information he submitted with it was "Street Shoter."

Mark Mahar entitled this image "Sycamore."

Mark's camera was aimed towards the sun, which is slightly shielded by the limbs of the sycamore tree, creating semi-silhouetted trees and unusual foreground shadows that seem to reach everywhere through the picture.

Mark made this shadow-filled image shooting into the sun that shone on Hyde Park.

Che Francisco described herself as a hobbyist who just ventured into photography when she submitted this backlit image.

Many beginning photographers think they must have the sun behind them when taking outdoors pictures, but Che apparently quickly discovered that that is a fallacy.

By exposing for the background light, objects in the foreground become underexposed and turn into silhouettes. Since the silhouetted objects in this image are easily-recognizable, Che's technique worked, especially since the composition is an attractive one.

This second image submitted by Che Francisco demonstrates an unusual eye for effective composition.

Your attention is drawn first to the starfish that is central in the picture. But, the composition, showing the others evenly-spaced and diagonally placed across the frame, gives the picture a dynamic feeling, and you can't help but allow your eye to take it all in.

Well done, Che. A fine picture.

What an interesting composition! Evenly-spaced starfish on a stark white beach that seem to be marching diagonally across the frame.

A perfect day for ballooning, captured on film by Claude Brown.
A perfect day for ballooning, captured on film by Claude Brown.

These colorful pictures of hot air balloons (left and below) were photographed by Claude Brown of Anderson, South Carolina using a Canon Rebel G camera fitted with a Canon EF 75-300mm lens. They were shot at a local hot air balloon event that is held each year in Anderson, called "Freedom Weekend Aloft".

"I believe they were taken with Fuji film - 200 ISO," says Claude. "I use different film all the time, so it is hard to remember. I took like four or five rolls."

Claude, who describes himself as "an old country boy," is in fact a prolific, quality photographer who credits his camera abilities to his graphic arts education and to a great deal of self-learning from both books and experience. He is a big fan of our book "Guide to Posing the Female Model," and has shown us many fine examples of the excellent photographs he has taken using it.
