Our viewers' pictures
Pictures of children from our viewers.
|
Your child does not have to be looking at the camera in order to have a good picture of her, as you can see by this intimate portrait of Emilee.
|
Ashley sent us this picture of her daughter, Emilee, when she was thirteen-months-old in June, 2002. It shows that you don't have to have your child stare at the camera and smile to capture a good picture of her.
Candid pictures, taken when your child's attention is concentrated elsewhere, are often the best pictures in your album, and the most natural-looking.

Kanan submitted this fetching image, also in June, 2002, which she entitled "My Son MOON." Kanan wrote that she took this picture in her house, using a Pentax camera fitted with a 100-300mm zoom lens using ISO 100 FujiFilm and a silk cloth as the sole prop.
The composition is simple, with emphasis on the little one's face, and there are no distractions. It's a lovely portrait of a lovely boy. Shooting your kids at home is often the best place for them to be relaxed and natural.
|
Kanan's little son, Moon, makes a wonderful subject for her photography.

"Milan and his truck" is the name given by photographer / mother, Asha, to this endearing and professional-looking image of a one-year-old with a favorite toy.
|
"This is my first attempt at a more formal portrait of my second son (who is a very active one-year-old)." writes mother, Asha in December of 2002. "I side-lit the backdrop from the left, and side-lit my son from the right."
Asha used Kodak's TCN400 film for this picture - a fast (ISO 400) B&W film that can be processed in most color film processors.
She wrote, "The settings were f/5.6 @ 1/60 sec., using a Canon A1 with a 50mm lens."
|
In case you were wondering what Asha's older son looks like, she also kindly supplied us with a picture of him (on the right).
Asha wrote: "This was also taken on Kodak's TCN400 B&W film, and the only lighting was from the window. My three-year-old son (Nik) was having his afternoon rest and I thought he looked so peaceful. I used a Canon EOS 500 with a 50mm lens set at f/1.8 at 1/8 sec. Despite the slow shutter speed, it was hand held."
Well done, Asha. You have a steady hand, good selective focus, and a good eye for light and pleasing composition.

A happy two-year-old almost always makes for a "keeper" photograph.

Proud mother/photographer, Kim, wrote: "I snapped this great picture of my 2 year old in our tree outside. You could just feel his childhood coming through his smile! With a little editing software, I converted the pic to black and white, and came up with a perfect pic for our wall !"
