Now that's different - 2
A second mini-gallery of unusual photographs
|
Is this every driver's nightmare, or something else unexpected?
|
EVERY DRIVER'S NIGHTMARE?
In looking at this picture, you might ask if the driver of the Jeep survived, but the picture is an illusion.
The transport truck was being towed, in the same direction as the Jeep. One pair of skid marks just happened to line up nicely with the Jeep's tires, which provided the opportunity to take a quick shot that appeared to be a credible disaster-in-the-making.
A tell-tale is the red light on the truck's bumper (just below the right-hand mirror of the Jeep), placed there by the tow-truck driver as a brake light.

TREE GETTING A DOUSING
Why is this tall tree being inundated with water, and where is the water coming from? Good questions. You may already know or be able to guess what is going on here, especially if you live in a heavily-forested region or fly helicopters.
If the picture is still a mystery to you in spite of our clues, the pictures below solve it.
|
Is this tree beneath a waterfall?
|
This helicopter is dumping a bucket full of water on a forest fire.
|
Helicopters are important in fighting forest fires. They serve several purposes - an airborne platform for the Fire Chief to observe the extent of the blaze, and to direct fire-fighting activities; to transport personnel and equipment into hard-to-reach areas; to rescue people or animals that may be trapped by the fire; and to douse the flames by dumping water or fire retardents, as is happening in these scenes.
|
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
The flames at the base of the tree were successfully extinguished by this well-executed water drop.
Near pin-point accuracy in getting water to where it is needed to fight forest fires is made possible by good pilots flying specially-equipped helicopters.

It must be a tiring business, catching flies in mid-air. When you need a nap, you take it where you can.
|
HIGH-WIRE ACT
When the need for sleep comes suddenly upon you as you're zinging through the air in chase of flies for dinner, you stop at the first convenient spot, even if it is an electrical cable.
Aah! A few minutes of safe shuteye, high above the fields, then you are refreshed and off again.

ALL IN A LATHER
The boys at a summer camp near Boston were looking for a little fun. Something different, and memorable.
Dressed in swimming trunks, they assembled outdoors in a field, each equipped with an aerosol can filled with whipped cream. Need we say more?
|
Assemble a bunch of happy campers equipped with aerosol cans of whipping cream, and this is what you get.
