Dr. Franco Piemontesi resides in Torino, Italy, where he works as an oral surgeon. In his "other life," though, he is an accomplished amateur photographer. Following his lifelong passion for travel and photography, he has undertaken more than thirty voyages with his camera to some of the world's more remote corners, including the Arctic, Antartic, South America, India and Africa. Africa, the dark continent, is where he photographed the superb wildlife images in this gallery. Although Dr. Piemontesi used a Nikon F5 camera with a variety of Nikkor lenses to take the pictures in this gallery, he now shoots with Canon equipment.
A supporter of natural preservation, he says "I still have many dreams, among which, as a photographer, there are two: to contribute, by way of my photographs, to the knowledge of the miracle of life on Earth and its biodiversities - a first step towards protecting and preserving it - and then... the cover of National Geographic." With respect to his second dream, a coveted National Geographic magazine cover photo, you may feel that many of his images already seem worthy of that lofty goal.
