Pets do funny things

Keep your camera near for when your pet goes wonky

Spring fever affects most pets. Keep your camera handy to capture their exuberance on that first warm day.

WHO HASN'T BEEN ENTERTAINED BY THEIR PET?

A cat, a dog or most any kind of pet can get up to high-jinks that may keep us laughing for days. If you want to be sure to remember your pet's character and humorous behavior for years, you should record it on film (or on your digital camera's sensor). A picture is the best reminder, and will bring a smile to your face decades afterwards.

BE PREPARED

Because you never know when the action will start, it's a good idea to keep your camera nearby and to have a roll of film or a digital memory card ready for use. Don't forget to always have a supply of fresh batteries for the camera and the flash.

TAKE GOOD PICTURES

Be sure, too, to follow our tips for pet photography.

  • Fill the frame with the subject and context, and nothing more.
  • Use a zoom lens to move in closer.
  • Watch the background. Move around if you have to, to get a better one. Try to keep it simple and uncluttered.
  • Get down (or up) to your pet's level whenever possible.
  • Look for the best camera angle.
  • Try to catch your pet's expression.
  • If the action is fast and furious, use a fast shutter speed to freeze it,
  • or a slower one to create blur.

OUR EXAMPLES

This page contains some of our favorites. Nothing spectacular - just fun photos with funny-acting pets.

HAVE YOU GOT A FAVORITE ALREADY? SHARE IT WITH US

You may perhaps have a favorite photo of your own pet, or possibly even a wild animal, acting up or behaving in a bizarre manner that you'd like to share with our viewers. Please, send it in and we'll credit you with the photography if we feature it on the site.
