Hi All
I just got my camera(2nd hand Olympus SP 500-UZ) after years of wanting to be a descent amateur photographer.
Now I do not want to be an average person who has a camera, that just points and shoots. I want to understand photography basics. Like what makes a great photo, etc. I'm sick of being in awe of other photographers work, where I can also improve my capabilities and possibly become a descent photographer too. This is where you guys come in!
So I need as much help as I can get please! Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any tips, that can help me improve my pics.
Thanx a mil.

Honestly, it's easier for us if you just post a picture and let us tell you how to improve it. The more pictures you post, the more tips and instruction you get.

I get the impression your experience with photography is with point and shoot cameras and without any thought to exposure or composition. This is not a bad thing but it means you've somne learning to do.
I suggest you get a book on exposure such as Understanding Exposure, 3rd Edition by Bryan Peterson or on photography in general like The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby.
Good luck and have fun.

Yes, do post samples of your work and you will get good helpful input. Then put that into use and post more. However, if you post to many photos in one thread you won't get much help. I'd suggest 2 or 3 at the most per thread.
Second what Joel said and also understand what different shutter speeds, f-stops and ISO can do to any image and how they interrelate.
