Long story short nearly all my tripods have the same Manfrotto 015 head. I did have a quick release head on an early Slik tripod but it was plastic and after dropping it once too often it broke and I got the smaller version of the 015 head (cant remember the number)for it.
Anyway I've been quite happy with these heads for years, decades in fact. But I'm seeing some really good quick release heads about and the L brackets which mount the camera portrait format right over the tripod head rather than off to one side as is my case. Now buying a new head can be pricy, especially if you need 4 of them.
So I asked around and watched some videos and come up with the Neewer pro Arca quick release addaptor plate. This fits on your regular tripod head and uses the Arca plate fitting, which is a popular semi standard QR fitting. I ordered one off fleabay to try and I have to say I'm well impressed so far. It seems very well made and better still cheap, I paid £16 (around $20)I'm still waiting for the L brackets to arrive so I won't know for sure if they'll fit untill they arrive. They are supposed to be the "standard" Arca so fingers crossed.
Note I'm nothing to do with Neewer, Arca or any of the sellers on flebay or amazon.
A phone pic of the plate in place on a tripod.

Update, I just ordered another 2 of these (found them even cheaper, got 2 for £14)Well impressed with the one I have. I showed it to a friend last night and they ordered one while I was there.
I actually hadn't thought of getting mates standardised. It makes sense, you can just borrow a mates tripod for a minute if your out together.
The only only downside is you get a GREAT shot lined up and they come along and say "leave your tripod there Wayne, I'm just going to grab the same shot.... what setting did you use mate?"
Drat, maybe I need a rethink.....

Update.
It seems theres a question mark over these being arca swiss compatable, one L bracket I tried wont fit (it's supposed to be arca swiss) I have found a way to adapt it but it looks like these Neewer plates may not be the best choice if your thinking of using a L bracket. They work great for a normal QR head though.
Now the big question, do I replace all of them with what is a proper swiss arac for the L brackets, or do I modify another 3 L brackets to work with these. The mod works fine but does add weight.

Last update.
The Neewer QR head adaptors are NOT Arca Swiss compatable. I've tried the heads with three different Arca swiss plates (two different L brackets and a proper Arca Swiss plate) None will fit into the Neewer heads.
That said you can get a universal L bracket which has the standard 1/4 screw fitting on both sides of the L and attach two Neewer plates to it. Thats what I've done and it works fine. The drawback is there is the camera is now bigger and heavier as the bracket and plates add about 3/4 of an inch on the bottom and one side of the camera.
I'm going with that solution until my "proper" Arca Swiss head adaptor arrives, then I'm switching to the standard light L brackets.
The Neewer adaptors are great if you just want a normal quick release head, they are solid and well made. The just wont work with an L bracket, which is what I wanted.
