Hello guys,

I love photography and it’s my passion. I am married, and now, my husband wants me to take my dream forward. I always wanted to open a studio of my own. He is of the opinion that this is the right time, because our kids are grown up now, and they started school. So, we have been thinking about this for some time now. I did an extensive research, and the costs of setting up, the digital cameras and other equipments will come up to a huge amount. We do not have so much funds as such. My husband has an income which is sufficient for our family needs only, and I can’t ask him for more. So, I am planning to take a mortgage for self employed people (from Canada Mortgage Direct). I wanted to know, from where I could get the equipments at a cheap rate. I really wish my dream comes true soon. I’m excited and nervous too. Also, any tips for a beginner ?

What country are you based Amanda? There are plenty of camera stores, many online with pretty competitive prices.
Setting up a basic studio can cost less than you might think, theres a chap set up not too far from me and his lights, background and camera, come in under £2000, and to be fair he's getting really good quality images, his biggest cost since was a good printer, that cost a few thousand pound on it's own, but you can send out your printing to get you going untill the money starts rolling in.
More importantly I'd suggest you look at what competition you have locally studio wise, and make a business plan, work out your costs, rent etc, then see if you can price your pics in the market your in.
