hi everyone,

i have a question, wheni set my canon 40d on sports mode and take photos everything is in focus, but how do you get the main subject in focus and the background blurred?

Shoot in aperture priority and set the lens wide open... This will give the fastest shutter speed to freeze the action and the maximum background blur (minimum depth of field)...

It will also help if you use a longer focal length lens, say a 70-200 or similar, if your using the 18-55 lens try it at the 55mm end rather than the wide end.

Shooting at its maximum aperture (the diaphragm WIDE OPEN)... Take for instance a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 zoom lens, it has an aperture range of f/2.8 (wide open) but can be stopped down to f/32... Shooting at f/2.8 will give the fastest shutter speed and maximum background blur that that lens is capable of...
