Well we went back to get more milky way shots (my second ever attempt) the sunflowers were long gone so we used this coastguard look out for most of the shots. The last shot I took was whats called wormshead, the island in the foreground. This was 12.800 iso at 30 seconds, even with a 10mm lens the stars are starting to streak a bit.

I wish my night shoots looked 1/10 that good. One day I may drift your way for some lessons.

A lot of it is the processing Steve, they look pretty grim as they come off camera.
I edit in Lightroom with the following.
Contrast +100
Highlights +100
Whites +50 (ish)
Blacks -50 (ish)
Clarity + varies
This is my starting point and I tweak from there, clarity makes a big difference.
The finished shot has the building looking terrible so I layer a copy of the original and use the building/foreground from that and the sky from the edited (in photoshop)

Thank you for the information. Right now I am still prepping for back surgery. I cannot even hold my camera for any length of time and am not were I can even use a tripod yet.

Hope it all goes ok mate. I know a dodgy back can be a pain, I've got an old injury on mine, most of the time it's not too bad, but whan it plays up I'm stuck.
You don't realise how much you use your back until you get a problem with it.
