A mate gave me his old Nikon D2x and sigma dg lens the other week, He hasn't used it for years, the battery was a bit sad as he'd lost the charger, but the camera and lens are fine.
A charger cost me £12 off ebay and I've now got a knocking about camera built like a tank to keep in the car (cost around £5k new)At low iso it's pretty good, anything over 640iso and the noise is an issue. No match for a newer camera. Heck I was shooting at 25.600 iso the other day on a Canon, it's noisy but at normal sizes you'd be hard put to tell the difference.

Thanks Steve. Have had a few issues, getting the colours closer to what I get with Canon was a pain, for some reason he'd got a custom setup with a lot of yellow dialed in, took me a while to find it and kind of reset it to the normal.
The other issue I had was the date and time kept going out, the default appears to be 2006. That turned out to be the internal battery, which luckily for me is an easy change (it's in the battery compartment) that was another £1.50.
All in all a dirt cheap camera for me with a really good lens (sigma DG 2.8)
I suspect I'm going to have to buy a new proper battery for it sooner or later, although as they are running around the £30 mark thats not too bad either.

Heres another shot from the walk B+W in photoshop
