Dramatic lighting and bright color contribute to a fine photograph by Josh Quinn.
Dramatic lighting and bright color contribute to a fine photograph by Josh Quinn.

Photographer Josh Quinn sent us this moody image, with the comment that "Green is just the right color."

"Cameras are just a tool or a brush," says Josh. "My mother bought me a camera when I was nine," he says, "and I am now going on 28." Stating that some of his best photos were taken with cheap cameras, he says. "I have been shooting semi-pro for two years now, doing 10 to 12 weddings a year and all kinds of portraiture. You name it; I do it."

"You don't have to travel around the world to take a good picture," says Josh. "The best pictures are right in front of you."

Michelle Rich calls this appealing picture "Beautiful Pup."

Asked about her photography, Michelle wrote, "Well, really I love taking pictures - even of me. I just let my dog go outside and he does the rest! This is my favorite of them all!"

An alert, bright-eyed pet in a cute pose is a sure winner.

We also liked this picture of her pet by Michelle.

It is a marked contrast from the one above, in that the little dog has lost the freedom he had from being outdoors in the snow, and seems to be patiently waiting to be "let out of jail" once again.

Pets don't always have to be active to make an appealing picture. This little dog's acceptance of his confined situation, and his obvious mood and patience are evident in this photograph, and show another side of his likeable character.

Photographer Maureen Armstrong tells us about her puppy, "My husband and son named him 'Moose'. Funny name for a little fella. He's a long hair chihuahua, about 5 months old. He is so photogenic! The camera loves him! Although, it does make him look like an angel, when in fact he's a little troublemaker!"

Maureen says that she used her new Finepix S5700 digital camera. She says, "The sun was hitting him in such a lovely way. He always seems to find a sunbeam to lie in. This was one of my first pics using my new camera. Since then I've been shooting everything! I've always been drawn to lighting, the way the sun slants in at different times of day, etc. I believe I used the Natural light setting. Since the sunlight was perfect, I didn't need a flash."

This little fellow seems relaxed and content to be in the limelight.

"Moose" appears to have a weighty problem in this picture by Maureen Armstrong.

Maureen sent us another picture of Moose, with the following comments. "Enjoy! Had to throw in the one of Moose 'waiting for a spot' with the weights. Too funny."

She said, "My tip, if any since I'm a novice, is 'Keep shooting. Take lots of pictures and pick a favorite!' Moose is one of my favorite subjects. I have lots of pics of him."

We don't doubt it, Maureen.

Melissa MacGill sent us this lively photograph of her sister's dog. Well, one of them, anyway. Melissa wrote, "She's got five that she wanted me to take some pics of."

Her sister should be happy with this one, which shows the dog's exhuberance and energy.

Melissa calls it "Ridgeback at play." Rhodesian Ridgebacks are famous for their great energy and playfulness. We hope that Melissa's sister has an equal amount of energy to keep up with that of her dogs.
