Since 1999, the PhotographyTips.com Forums have been the source of a great deal of information and inspiration for photographers, models and many others who want to know more about the wonderful vocation and hobby that photography is. Lately, Forum participation has been dropping off - a clear signal that it is time to freshen things up.

We'd like to begin with the introduction of new topics, and welcome your recommendations.

Over the years, we have noticed several posts from photographers who wish to find a fresh new face to photograph, and from aspiring models who are looking for quality photographers to round out their portfolios or to provide them with meaningful work. With that in mind, we think that a topic such as "Models Looking for Photographers and Photographers Looking for Models" would be a good starter.

We have plenty of other ideas, but thought it would be best to check with you, our users, first before making any changes. After all, the Forums are for you, and your opinions about what is discussed here are extremely important.

Please let us know:

(1) What you feel would be topics of interest to you, and not only you but also to the thousands of others out there who are seeking answers to their questions or who have something worthwhile to contribute; and

(2) Which topics currently in place you feel should now be removed.

We have no preconceived restrictions other than common decency and the belief that topics should be related to photography and its many off-shoots.

Please take a few moments to express your thoughts and wishes for change by replying to this post in the Off-topic section. No holds barred. Say what you think, and you will have an audience that cares about your opinion.

Hi Dan, I was wondering if perhaps a 'basics or beginners' type section might be worth trying, theres plenty of experienced members here always willing to help with questions.

Not a bad idea, Wayne. Thank you.

That gives us two new categories to consider - Models/Photographers, and Beginners.

We're off to a good start.

A challenge page?

Sounds... challenging, and interesting. What do you have in mind?

Well you for instance pick a theme or subject like blue for example or sharp or whatever you want and people can interpret it anyway they like and post pictures for say a month. The pictures have to be taken in that time period. Then they can get voted on and the winner pics the next subject and so on.
Or how about guess the image. I think we did that years ago on here. Very close up of something, almost abstract. Photographers are better guessers than the average people but it still might be fun

I like challenges and good feedback! So if we do have a challenge we need to make sure we have good feedback, yes, I have been guilty too. "Nice image" needs to be replaced with good composition... Whys and hows. It would be interesting. As photographers learn the skill their questions and observations sharpen. We all could benefit.

A challenge topic sounds like a very good idea, Meredith. I believe Forum members would step up to the challenge, and we will see some excellent images.

We now have three good ideas for change and improvement of the Forums.

Any more?

And what about topics that should be removed?

All ideas are welcome. Let's hear from you. What do you want from your Forums?

Does photography forums have a facebook page? Might get some more action generated since social media is the way of the world now

The Forums do not have a Facebook presence, Meredith. Having one may be a good idea, as you suggest.

Worth looking into. Thank you.
