First - to all my American friends, I hope you had a very happy and safe 4th of July!
We did the usual family get together for the 4th of July yesterday. Got home late and was just settling in processing photos from the day when I heard sirens. Went out on my balcony and saw massive amounts of smoke across the street. Went to check it out but didn't take my camera with me. Came home, got the camera and went back. All told there were 8 fire companies who responded and 2 ambulance companies. Most of the fire companies in my area of the county are volunteer.
Anyway, here are a few photos. All shot with my Canon 50D, 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at ISO 6400. Remember, these were not taken for any media outlet - just because I was being a nosey neighbor.

There were 5 businesses in this building in the strip mall. The fire probably started in the dry cleaners and they had heavy damage. The other 4 businesses sustained smoke damage.

Thank God you're okay Alice! I don't know why you wouldn't call yourself a stringer. You're an excellent photographer and I bet your newspaper would have published them. Cheers.

Good job on all these photos! Definitely good enough for any newspaper. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.
