Photographers may no longer be able to use the power of Facebook to show their work without losing the rights to it.

The Association of Media Photographers has issued a warning about an updated policy that permits Facebook to sell a photographers images.

The ASMP says photographers will get nothing from such sales, and that Facebook can apparently hold photographers legally responsible for not having obtained model and property releases.

It is difficult enough for photographers to make a buck. We need every opportunity to showcase our work... And now someone else wants to steal our work! GAAA!

Facebook seems to be dying anyway, more and more people seems to be leaving it for one reason or another, I stopped some time back.
If your still using FB try putting a big watermark across the middle of the pics, lets see them sell that.

The terms and conditions of many sites state that the websites can use the images, most are to cover the site for hosting the images in the gallery ect, but some grab all the rights to an image (quite common in photo contests) it's something to watch out for.
It doesn't however stop you watermarking your image (although some contests won't accept watermarked images)
The safest option is to assume any image you put online will be stolen, so make them small and low res so they are pretty much useless to sell.

Yikes, that sounds horrifying. It's just sad really that things people have worked so hard for can be stolen with just a few clicks.
