First let me say everyone has some awesome images on here lately. I've been practicing alot, and would like to know what you think about this one. I recently upgraded bodies, and purchased a 70-200mm lens. My grandson started baseball this year, so I've had a lot of practice on action shots for the last month or so. Okay - so they are only t-ball; but hey - you gotta start somewhere.

I would appreciate any help you guys can share...thanks in advance for looking

Alice is awesome with sport shots too! I hope they can give me some advice (hint..hint..). Thanks for looking Chance - I do have a couple worth sharing. I would love to hear some feedback on how to improve the comps as well...

Oh yes Alice also. Or is it Alice I mean. I don't know I will have to look at some old posts
The second one love how the ball is in the shot although I would have backed off a bit.

There was a lot of "distractions" in the background of the original. I'll work with it and see how far I can back off. Thanks, Chance! I appreciate it!

Two very good shots there... Beautiful timing and composition...
Second one I'd use the eliptical marquee tool to select the ball... 3 pixel feather... create a new layer from the selection... change the blending mode to multiply and adjust the opacity... Just to give the ball a little more punch...

Great shots, Vee. You done yourself proud.
You might try to give yourself a little more room arount the edges so that you don't run the risk of cutting something off (finger, top of head, etc.) when sizing the photo or framing it. Also in the pic 2 a wider aperture to eliminate the background would help.
And, finally, from picture 1, get the kid long pants so he doesn't scrape all the skin off his leg.

Thanks, Kenny - appreciate the tip on processing. I'll try that on this one, and I have a couple more I'll try it on.

Thanks JJ; I've cropped down to this size, just for web posting on the League's web site. I could add some more room. Thanks for your help!

Your thoughts on this b/w ? I'm trying to practice some b/2 treatments - any suggestions?

Vee - first, thanks for the kind words. I don't consider myself any kind of sports shooting guru - I just like to shoot and have fun. Anyway ...

IMG_331523web - gotta love these little guys. Even at this age they want to slide. Did you happen to get the shot of him looking up at his coach afterwards? For some reason my eyes keep going to his right hand - not quite sure what he's thinking at this point.

IMG_2963web - I love this shot. You have the ball and bat with just enough motion blur to show the action of batting. The plus for me in this shot is the concentration you've captured in his facial expression.

IMG_3940 - nice capture of the action but the background is distracting. Unfortunately, we don't always have good backgrounds at some of these youth sports fields. The best thing I've found to do when shooting in front of backgrounds like this is to shoot the lens wide open to try to blur the background as much as possible.

Become a "watcher" of the game. As your grandson moves up, there will be opportunities for more shots. You'll learn what to watch for as double plays develop, the pitcher is going to try to pick off a runner, the catcher is going to try to throw out a runner, etc. This takes some practice and you have the perfect opportunity.

You did well on these. Keep shooting and sharing. One last thought - look for the funny shots of these little guys. Their attention spans are short, things will distract them and some of those shots are priceless - shots of them watching or trying to catch butterflies in the outfield, playing with the grass, those types of shots.

Thanks, Alice - I could learn a lot from you... :-) These little ones are fun to capture. Their expressions, and attitudes are so much fun. And you're so right about the attention span.....three innings, and their done

Here's another one.

These are adorable, Vee. I'd make that frame on the shortstop thinner. As it is it makes him smaller.
